In some regions of Southeast Bulgaria everyone gets up early this day to see how when the sun rises it goes back to the winter. It is believed that in this way they will be healthy and joyful. The people's belief is that the hail comes as a punishment from God for the sins people have made and that is why Vidovden should be celebrated, "so that God could not see the sins".
