It is a folk holiday celebrated mainly in Eastern Bulgaria as e
protection from fire, blaze, thunder and rarely hail. It is connected
to the idea of the destroying powers of the fire. On Pavlovden work
is not allowed and fire should not be set even if it is for preparing
the food. People do not knead bread in Eastern Thrace so that the
flour will not mat and get wormy.
Church Holiday:
According to the church calendar Pavlovden is celebrated on
29th June (the day of the St. Apostles Peter and Paul), but the
people considers it as a different holiday and celebrates it on
the next day (30 June). |
